ARCHON (Maciej Michalski) was born on November 26, 1981 in Sycewo. His enormous passion for broadly understood art – painting, photography, music – made him start his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. At that time, video art combined with painting was his main expression in art. Over time, these attempts resulted in the first medium-length film – „Scanda” from 2003. This is a mysterious story about three women with Justyna Steczkowska’s music. In 2005, „The Doll House” was created, another artist film. His fascination with the miniature world told this time the story of a girl who, through innocent play with a dollhouse, discovers the secret desires of real people.
Over the years, Archon made over 100 music videos, mainly for Chrysta Bell, Justyna Steczkowska, Anita Lipnicka, Basia Trzetrzelewska, De Mono, Cristina Bien, Oana Cathalina Chitu, Irena Jaroska and many other artists of popular and alternative music. In this field, the director twice won the award for the best music video in Europe in 2010 and 2011.
In 2010, the first feature film was made – „The Queen of Snow” with the main role of Ewa Kasprzyk, Teresa Lipowska and Jaroslaw Sacharski. The film is a contemporary interpretation of Andersen’s fairy tales and deals with the topic of homosexual son and his mother’s relationship. Archon is also a composer of film music, enriched by the vocals of Justyna Steczkowska. He received two awards for this film at the Polish Film Festival in Los Angeles.
In 2013, Archon directed another film, „Canadian dresses,” starring Anna Seniuk, Ewa Kasprzyk, Zofia Czerwińska, Piotr Polek, Ela Jarosik and Ewa Kolasińska. This is the artist’s first feature film that relates to his childhood. In 2016 he directs the film „Kukułeś” with the main role of Piotr Polek, Anna Seniuk and Iwona Bielska. The film is about a difficult relationship between a 15-year-old boy and an older man. The year 2019 was the decisive year of Archon and Chrysta Bell, known for David Lynch’s „Twin Peaks”. The artists made a short music film together, which contained two songs from the singer’s last album.
